Establish a Routine

Having a treadmill doesn’t make you more active. Owning a guitar doesn’t make a you a musician. Here are a few steps to establish a routine.

Reminders

Visible reminders help keep you accountable.

  • Keep a grocery list
  • Have your workout clothes/bag visible
  • Keep that musical instrument hanging on the wall in a prominent place instead of in a case

Take Out a Step

We will often not do something because the thought of the set up is overwhelming.

  • Get your exercise clothes ready the night before and have them ready for the morning.
  • Have the instrument with the sheet music set out already.

Some is Better Than None

A big monumental effort isn’t needed. Something small and consistent can add up.

If that 20 minute walk seems daunting, simply step outside and walk to the sidewalk and back.

Need to practice for 30 minutes a day? Start with playing a few notes.

No Excuses

Take the decision out of it. Start doing and the effort will build motivation.
